Imagine Philip Marlowe woke up one day with the mother of all hangovers and discovered he'd been turned into a Glaswegian. And not only that but he's saddled with a partner in the shape of his devious fat friend, The Bumble. Well, that's how our Narrator feels.
After finding a dead man hanging from a door, discovering a stash of Nazi memorabilia, and surviving a run-in with a psychotic hoodlum, the Narrator is in no mood for any more nonsense. The Bumble's explanations involving the mysterious flight of Rudolph Hess to Scotland, a deceased Glasgow car dealer, and a hoard of Nazi gold just don't ring true...
The Bumble's End is a black, humourous tale of greed, death and toffees in the run up to Christmas, Femmes fatales, old Nazis, missing gold and a Rottweiler called Tango chase through the pages. Also on the trail are three unwise men watched over by a corrupt cop with a head cold.
The Season of Goodwill just doesn't get any more funpacked than this.

Jimmy Bain's THE BUMBLE'S END takes the reader deep into parts of Edinburgh a tourist never sees. One never learns the story teller's name, but he is a former policeman who now works for Davie "Bumble" Cowen doing small investigations.Bumble send him north to check on his nephew, Tony McCaffrey. Tony when found is hanging on the bedroom door a suicide or murder victim. He finds some old Nazi artifacts in the room that proves to be the flat of Jim Cowan, Bumble's brother.
So begins a fast paced tangle with crooked cops, old Nazis, women, liers, and rapid crooks all seaching for some gold smuggled into Scotland when Rudolp Hess flead Germany. Some symbolism and allusions connect the story to the three wise men and Christmas Eve.
A fun read if you enjoy a different take without a straight in the crowd.

The Bumble End A Bumble Book Book 1 eBook Jimmy Bain Barbara ScottEmmett Reviews
The Bumble's End is a very funny crime caper that gives us engaging characters, noir plotting and irreverent humour all in one easily digested package. The Bumble himself and his long suffering cast of helpers and hinderers are all well realised, funny characters who keep us engaged as the plot twists and turns in unexpected but always rewarding ways. Well worth a read.
Despite the none-too-appealing cover image, I liked the sound of the subject matter from the synopsis so I gave the sample a whirl. While it may be rather Cert18 in places and of a genre that is not ordinarily my cup of tea, the general writing style, pace, humour and plot were amongst the best I've read from any indie publisher. Recommended.
This was a delightful, quirky read! I loved the peculiar characters and the unexpected appearance of "Nazi gold!" I would recommend this book to those who love quirky mysteries.
The Bumble's End by Jimmy Bain has some very definite plot events that grasp and hold your attention.
The story is set in a unique locale that provides an almost nostalgic look at a life in Scotland.
There are some adult situations that may not be age appropriate for younger readers.
Overall, the author does a good job with the plot, characters and journey through the story.
This book is worth reading and well priced.
I'd purchased this over a year ago for my spouse who is into mysteries. In the meantime she switched to a newer (read on a K3) and now, on vacation, I was going through some she missed. This, if you're looking for a strange sort of "hard-boiled" humor, is your book. The author clearly has a knack for similes - for example, "I had a bowl of meusli for breakfast that could have passed for cat litter" - admittedly there are similarities.
In any case, a plot involving all sorts of odd characters, full of, presumably, Scottish slang, and of course Nazis. I immediately went to see if there were any follow-ons (there's one so far).
